And We did not send a prophet in a town but We overtook its people with distress and affliction in order that they might humble themselves. 94 and then We changed their hardship into ease until they grew affluent and said, "Our fathers had also experienced adversity and prosperity," then We seized them suddenly, unawares. 95 Had the people of the towns believed (in Our revelations) and maintained piety, We would have certainly showered on them Our blessings from the sky and the earth. But they called Our revelations lies, thus Our torment struck them for their evil deeds. 96 Are the people of the region so secure that they lie asleep unaware as Our punishment overtakes them? 97 What! do the people of the towns feel secure from Our punishment coming to them in the morning while they play? 98 Are they oblivious to Allah’s secret plan? So none is unafraid of Allah’s secret plan except the people of ruin! 99
