Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 So when I have made him complete and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down making obeisance to him. 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 He replied, "I am not one to prostrate myself to a man whom You have created out of a clay of moulded mud." 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 (Allah) said: "Respite is granted thee 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 "For over My servants no authority shalt thou have, except such as put themselves in the wrong and follow thee." 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
