Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Indeed, your Lord is in observation. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 Surely when We pound the earth to powder grounded, pounded to dust, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and when Hell is brought near that Day. On that Day will man understand, but of what avail will that understanding be? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 enter My Paradise! 30
