Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said, “We worship idols, and we keep squatting in seclusion before them.” 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 or do they cause you any benefit or harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Do you observe that which you have been worshipping, 75 You and your fathers? 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 who has created me and is the One who guides me, 78 And it is He who feeds me and gives me drink. 79 And when I am sick, then He restores me to health 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 Save him who bringeth unto Allah a whole heart. 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hell made visible to those who had gone astray. 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 Thereupon they will be hurled into hell - they, as well as all [others] who had been lost in grievous error, 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 "By God, we were plainly in error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
