[AND] the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan] gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 176 when Shuaib said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 177 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 178 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 179 I ask of you no reward for this. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 180 ۞ Give full measure and do not cheat; 181 And weigh with an even balance. 182 and do not diminish the goods of the people, and do not make mischief in the earth, working corruption. 183 And guard against (the punishment of) Him who created you and the former nations. 184 They said: thou art but of the bewitched; 185 "You are but a human being like us and verily, we think that you are one of the liars! 186 "Now cause a piece of the sky to fall on us, if thou art truthful!" 187 He said: 'My Lord knows what you are doing' 188 But they gave him the lie. And thereupon suffering overtook them on a day dark with shadows: and verily, it was the suffering of an awesome day! 189 Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 190 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 191
