The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Alif Lam Mim 1 The Byzantians have been overcome. 2 In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious 3 in a few years. To God belongs the Command before and after, and on that day the believers shall rejoice 4 In the help of God. He helps whom He will; He is all-mighty, ever-merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those that did evil was evil, for that they cried lies to the signs of God and mocked at them. 10
