The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
