The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
