▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you that create it or are We the creators? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
