The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Indeed there has been a time for man, when even his name did not exist anywhere. 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 the righteous shall drink from a cup mixed with the coolness of kafur, 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 we fear from our Lord a Day that shall be long and distressful.” 10 Therefore Allah will guard them from the evil of that day and cause them to meet with ease and happiness; 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there a cup (of wine) mixed with Zanjabil (ginger, etc.), 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 When you see them, you see bliss, and a great Kingdom. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 This will be their reward and their efforts will be appreciated. 22
