He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 So you are after him! 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
