The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 and casts forth what is in it, and voids itself, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 and he shall roast at a Blaze. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 you shall surely ride stage after stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Nay, but the unbelievers are crying lies, 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 But for those who believe and do good works; for them there shall be a never-ending reward. 25
