Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 Toiling, weary, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 raised couches, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 Do (these unbelievers) not observe the camels: how they were created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
