The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
