Said [pharaoh] unto the great ones around him: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge 34 He would drive you out of your land through his magic; what then is it ye command? 35 They said: "Put him off and his brother (for a while), and send callers to the cities 36 Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician." 37 So the sorcerers were got together for the appointment of a day well-known, 38 And it was said to the people: Will you gather together? 39 so that we might follow [in the footsteps of] the sorcerers if it is they who prevail?" 40 Then, when the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, they said: 'Shall we receive a wage if we win' 41 He said: yea; and ye shall verily then be of those brought nigh. 42 Moses said to them, "Throw whatever you will throw." 43 So they threw down their ropes and their staves and exclaimed, “By the honour of Firaun, indeed victory is ours!” 44 Then Moses threw down his staff, and it swallowed up all that they had conjured into being. 45 Then did the sorcerers fall down, prostrate in adoration, 46 They said: we believe in the Lord of the worlds. 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 Pharaoh said, "Have you come to believe in him, before I have given you permission? He is surely your master who has taught you magic. But you shall see. I will cut off your hands and feet on alternate sides and crucify you all." 49 They said: No harm; surely to our Lord we go back; 50 Indeed, we aspire that our Lord will forgive us our sins because we were the first of the believers." 51
