Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Join My servants. 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
