Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was among the losers, 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ We then put him ashore on a plain, and he was sick. 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand, or more, 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Now surely it is of their own lie that they say: 151 God hath begotten. Verily they are the liars. 152 "He has chosen daughters in preference to sons"! 153 What is [wrong] with you? How do you make judgement? 154 Then will you not be reminded? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They link Him with jinns by lineage, yet the jinns know they will be brought before Him. 158 Glorified is Allah! (He is Free) from what they attribute unto Him! 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 You and whatever you worship 161 Can mislead anyone away from Him, 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 Of us there is none but hath a station assigned. 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 What, would they then say: 167 "If we had a message from [those of] the former peoples, 168 Surely we would have been the bondmen of God sincere. 169 Yet (now that it is come) they disbelieve therein; but they will come to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 And that Our hosts, they verily would be the victors. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Our torment seek they to hasten on! 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 And turn away from them for some time. 178 and see; and they too shall soon see. 179 Too glorious is your Lord, the Lord of power, for what they ascribe to Him. 180 And Peace on the messengers! 181 And all praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. 182
