Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or do they say: 'He is a poet, we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him' 30 Tell them: "Keep on expecting, I am expecting with you." 31 Enjoin them their understandings to this? or are they a people conumacious? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Let them bring a discourse like thereunto, if they say sooth. 34 Have they not been created from some source, or are they themselves the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather they are not certain. 36 Or are thy Lord's treasuries in their keeping? Or are they the registrars? 37 Have they a stairway whereby they overhear? Then let their listener bring an authority manifest. 38 Has (God) daughters and they sons? 39 Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down? 40 Or have they [knowledge of] the unseen, so they write [it] down? 41 Or do they intend a plot (against thee)? But those who defy Allah are themselves involved in a Plot! 42 Or have they a god other than Allah? Exalted is Allah far above the things they associate with Him! 43 Were they to see a piece of the sky falling (on them), they would (only) say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 Hence, leave them alone until they face that [Judgment] Day of theirs, when they will be stricken with terror: 45 the Day when none of their scheming will be of the least avail to them, and they will receive no succour. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 and exalt Him in the night and at the declining of the stars. 49
