The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 facing one another. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
