He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 You pay full attention, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
