And indeed, Jonah was among the messengers. 139 He abandoned his people 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on to the vacant surface of the earth while he was sick. 145 We made a plant of gourd grow up for him. 146 And We had sent him to a hundred thousand: rather they exceeded. 147 And they believed, whrefore We let them enjoy life for a season. 148 Then ask them whether your Lord has daughters and they have sons. 149 Or created We the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 Oh, verily, it is out of their own [inclination to] falsehood that some people assert, 151 "Allah has begotten off spring or children (i.e. angels are the daughters of Allah)?" And, verily, they are liars! 152 Has He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What is the matter with you? How do you form your judgement? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 And some people have invented a kinship between Him and all manner of invisible forces although [even] these invisible forces know well that, verily, they [who thus blaspheme against God] shall indeed be arraigned [before Him on Judgment Day: for] 158 Purity is to Allah from the matters they fabricate. 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 can lure away from God any 162 Save him Who is to roast in the Flaming Fire. 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 And verily we! we are ranged in ranks. 165 Lo! we, even we are they who hymn His praise 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 We would have been the chosen creatures of God." 169 They therefore denied it, so they will soon come to know. 170 And verily Our word went forth of old unto Our bondmen sent (to warn) 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So you ignore them for a time 174 Watch them: they will soon see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise unto Allah the Lord of the worlds. 182
