Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 yet, they toy with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 Covering the people; this is a painful torment. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 We told him, "Leave the city with My servants during the night. You will be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
