The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
