In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A slave (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
