The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 by the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And the earth and Him Who extended it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 Then they denied him and they killed it. So their Lord destroyed them because of their sin, and made them equal in destruction (i.e. all grades of people, rich and poor, strong and weak, etc.)! 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
