The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and That which created the male and the female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 But save him who fears 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 And presently he shall become well pleased. 21
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
