He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
Almighty God's Truth.
