The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 Till he was (distant) two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
