He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 lofty and pure, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
