Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
