The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 Consider the day as it reveals the world, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 by the heavens and that (Power) which established them, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and how it is imbued with moral failings as well as with consciousness of God! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 And the messenger of Allah [Salih] said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah or [prevent her from] her drink." 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
