Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf. Ha. Ya. 'Ayn. Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 When he softly prayed to his Lord. 3 He said: O my Lord! verily the bones of me have waxen feeble, and the head is glistening with hoariness, and have not yet been in my prayer to thee, my Lord, unblest. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 who will be my heir and the heir of the family of Jacob. Lord, make him a person who will please you". 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 [Zechariah] said, "My Lord, make for me a sign." He said, "Your sign is that you will not speak to the people for three nights, [being] sound." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (And it was said unto his son): O John! Hold fast the Scripture. And we gave him wisdom when a child, 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 kind to his parents, not arrogant or a rebellious person. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
