The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
