The tribe of Thamud also rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said, "You are only of those affected by magic. 153 Thou art nothing but a mortal like ourselves! Come, then, forward with a token [of thy mission] if thou art a man of truth!" 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
