The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the sun and its brilliance, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 And the day when it revealeth him, 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 And the earth and Him Who spread it, 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 Then He showed him what is wrong for him and what is right for him; 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When the basest of them broke forth 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 He does not fear the consequence. 15
