The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
