The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there come on man a while of time when he was a thing unremembered? 1 Verily, it is We who have created man out of a drop of sperm intermingled, so that We might try him [in his later life]: and therefore We made him a being endowed with hearing and sight. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 Surely the pious shall drink of a cup whose mixture is camphor, 5 A fountain from which the servants of Allah shall drink; they make it to flow a (goodly) flowing forth. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 Saying: we feed you only for the sake of Allah; we desire not from you any recompense or thanks. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 So God will protect them from the evil of that day, and grant them happiness and joy, 11 and will reward them for their steadfastness with Paradise and robes of silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 since its [blissful] shades will come down low over them, and low will hang down its clusters of fruit, most easy to reach. 14 And brought round amongst them will be vessels of silver and also goblets of glass. 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when you look there [in Paradise], you will see pleasure and great dominion. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 Surely this is a reward for you, and your striving shall be recompensed. 22
