He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 Olives and dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
