۞ And assuredly We vouchsafed unto Ibrahim his rectitude aforetime, and him We had ever known. 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 Said he: "Indeed, you and your forefathers have obviously gone astray!" 54 They said, "Have you brought us the truth or are you jesting?" 55 He said, 'Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth who originated them, and I am one of those that bear witness thereunto. 56 And, by Allah! I will certainly do something against your idols after you go away, turning back. 57 So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 Some said, "We heard a young man, called Abraham, talking about them." 60 "Bring him before the people," they said, "that they may bear witness." 61 They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" 64 Thereafter they were made to turn over upon their heads, saying, assuredly thou knowest that they speak not. 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They cried: Burn him and stand by your gods, if ye will be doing. 68 We said: O fire, be coolness and peace for Abraham, 69 Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! 70 And We delivered him as well as Lut (removing them) to the land which We had blessed for all people. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 And We made them leaders, guiding (men) by Our Command, and We sent them inspiration to do good deeds, to establish regular prayers, and to practise regular charity; and they constantly served Us (and Us only). 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 We encompassed him in Our mercy; he was a righteous man. 75
