Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They answered: "There are some idols that we worship and are devoted to them with constancy." 71 He said: Do they hear you when ye cry? 72 Do they help or harm you?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: Have you then considered what you have been worshipping: 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 who makes me to die and then revives me, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 [And he said], "My Lord, grant me authority and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 Forgive my father. He has gone astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 And it will be said unto them: Where is (all) that ye used to worship 92 Other than God? Can they save you or even save themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of Iblis - all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 and we have no intercessors now, 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 104
