Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,- 34 surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs, 35 a warning to mortal man 36 a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind. 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 except the people of the right hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 about the sinners. 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 We plunged in with the plungers 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 As if they were affrighted asses, 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Yes indeed, this is an advice. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
