The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 on a Great Day, 5 the Day when all men shall stand before the Sustainer of all the worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe that day unto those who cry it lies, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old. 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 Nay! most surely they shall on that day be debarred from their Lord. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 and who will be told, "This is what you had called a lie". 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 It is a comprehensively written Book (of records). 20 which those angels closest to God will bear witness to. 21 The righteous shall indeed be blissful, 22 [resting on couches, they will look up [to God]: 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine, sealed, 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A fountain from which only they who are honoured drink. 28 Indeed, those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 while reclining on couches and reviewing (the bounties given to them). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
