The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 by the soul and how He formed it, 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 Behold, the most wicked man among them was deputed (for impiety). 12 So Allah's apostle said to them (Leave alone) Allah's she-camel, and (give) her (to) drink. 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
