Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A multitude of those of old 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This shall be their hospitality on the Day of Doom. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Tell Me! The seed that you sow in the ground. 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
