The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
