He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
