The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount 1 and the Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the House Frequented. 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
