And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 As We fashioned jinns before from intense radiated heat. 27 And (remember) when thy Lord said unto the angels: Lo! I am creating a mortal out of potter's clay of black mud altered, 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 "How is it, O Iblis," said (the Lord), "you did not join those who bowed in homage?" 32 He said: "It does not behove of me to prostrate myself before a human being whom You have created out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud." 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 "And the curse shall be on thee till the day of Judgment." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited 37 until the day of a known time." 38 He said, “My Lord! I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I shall distract them in the earth, and I shall lead all of them astray.” 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 Unto it are seven portals; unto each portal is a portion of them assigned. 44
