The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
