Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a poisonous thorny plant, 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 and raised couches, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth - how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed, to Us they shall return, 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
